YOP Update Sept 16th, 2012

No finishes this week in the fibre world for me.   But, I have finished some work for my next two classes so the week has still been pretty successful.  And, even with being back in class and having to play catch up since I didn’t receive my access codes until four days into the classes, I have managed to find some knitting time.  Maybe it’s the fact that I’m back in my own classroom teaching again or the fact that the weather is cooling off and certainly turning from summer to autumn, but I have been feeling the urge to get Roam back on the needles.    The second front half is almost complete despite it’s best efforts to be a thorn in my side and forcing me to frog back about twenty rows.  I am still convinced it’s going to be a disaster in the end as I firmly established here but that call of a completed cardi is becoming too much for me to ignore so it has my love again.  I also may have cast on my Hubby’s sweater in a fit of startitis.  The first sleeve in almost finished, (I’m using it as my swatch),  and it’s going to be a lovely, warm, rather rustic sweater and so far he seems to like it.

Hope everyone has had a great fibre week.

YOP Update August 12, 2012

It’s another week where there has been little progress made in the knitting department.  However, the flip side to that is I did get all three of my last assignments finished and turned in on time, so in reality, not having a ton of knitting time was a small price to pay for the peace of mind that comes with knowing that I am not struggling with my academic work load and having to play catch up.  Two exams to go and I will have three glorious weeks to knit ALL THE THINGS!!!!!!  (And then work and academics start-up again at the same time.  I think I need to go cry a little now).  Additionally, while I am spending more time each day with the brace off (it’s off right now actually and I can push the space bar down with my right hand again!!!), I do need to take frequent breaks in my knitting to stretch out my thumb and to ward off turning the dull throb that I feel pretty much constantly into pain.  But like I said last week, I can knit so I’m not really complaining.

As for the list, due to the yarn purchasing accident last week, I’ve added a Husband Sweater to the mix. It’s the Modern Aran  from the Knitting Manual.  It should be a relatively fast and simple knit.  And since he picked both the yarn and the pattern I won’t have to worry about whether or not he likes it.

I really hope to have a few finishes soon, but for now, here’s the list.

YOP Update – August 5th, 2012

After a little bit of a hiatus, (the first Sunday we were camping, the second we were in Cuba; neither activity really would have been enhanced by the addition of my laptop) I am back with a YOP update.  And while there is not much to report in the way of changes to the list, there has been great progress made with my ability to actually knit again! I can now knit for ever-increasing lengths of time with my brace off, as long as the item is light (socks are perfect) and I remember not to use my right thumb to “push” anything.  And I have figured out how to knit with the brace on!!!!!

Again items must be light and pattern simple and as you can imagine, progress is slow, but there is progress.  And as one of my knitting cohorts pointed out “slow progress is faster progress than not being able to knit at all.”  She is of course correct and even though my normal knitting pace has been slowed, I am thrilled to be able to knit again at all.

The other things I can do, again slowly and as long as I am very careful with my thumb, is weave in ends and sew.  Which means I am almost finished the Log Cabin Blanket.  It was on track to be complete before we went away, but that wasn’t able to happen due to Great Thumb Injury of 2012.  (I figure it needs a name since that will make it faster to type and it’s been enough of a thorn in my side that it really deserves a name.  I’d actually like to call it something else, and I often have, but they are not very lady like names and I really try hard not to use those words in my blog).

The only other major change is the balls in/out tally.  I may have had a little accident in a yarn shed yesterday.  More about that tomorrow, but believe me when I say no right thinking fibre person can fault me.

Without further rambling, on to my very static list.

One more thing – To answer a Morning Grouch’s question, July 1st was about two months after I first presented the idea to a group of other Ravelry folks.  That gave us enough time to get a group set up and for other people to join in and make lists.  It’s also a long weekend in North America so it seemed to make sense.

YOP Update July 15th, 2012

Week two of this the 2nd YOP year turned out to be a very productive one.  And I am amazed that while I was very, very  tempted to cast on something new, I managed to work only on pre-existing WIPS.  In reality it was torturous really very simple to stick  to that goal.  (I also know of a place where you can get yarn specifically for left-handed knitters.)  But, it does mean that there has been great progress on a bunch of stuff.

First, the Jaywalkers are over the half way mark and the second sock is underway.  After a little fiddling with my Mum’s slippers I figured out how to alter the pattern and I’m almost finished the first one.  Another square has been added to the blanket for Widget.

Seven down. Five to go.
Click for link

But, and this is making me happy, the log cabin blanket is one huge step closer to being finished.  I had tossed it aside for months because I hated the way the finishing was going.  It just wasn’t looking right.   The thought that I was going to have spent so much time and energy knitting something that was going to look rather terrible in the end made me a little nauseous and if I thought about it too much the room would start to spin a little and I’d need a cool cloth and some water and a very comfy place to sit until the horror passed.  So after months of pondering I finally decided to finish the same way I finished my Lizard Ridge blankets and I am crocheting around the edge of each square and sewing that together.  My hubby was awesome and ripped out all the black joins that were in the first row for me while I worked on the other squares.  Well over half the squares have completed edging and there is now a real possibility that I might be finished the blanket in the near future.

The only change to the list is one more pair of socks.  They are simple and basic and will show off some of my more outrageous sock yarn well.

Hope every one else had a wonderful fibre filled week.

YOP Update June 17th, 2012

I actually had some knitting time this week! I even managed to make it to a knit night at one of my favourite LYS.  That was a real treat as I haven’t done that in ages.  It was great and I got to catch up with other knitters I haven’t seen in a while.  There is very little chance on the list.  But I did sneak in another dishcloth and I’m pretty sure I’ll manage one more before the end of the month which mean that I will be right on track for completing all 24 cloth this year.  I also have a frogged item on the list.  The pattern really needs a chart and I just was not enjoying knitting it so instead of continuing to suffer I opted to take it off the needles and move on.

I’m really looking forward to doing this again.  My list is already really long which will be really interesting since my knitting time has decreased so dramatically.  But, I’ll cross that bridge when I get to it.

YOP Update – April 22nd

I’m starting to feel a little like a broken record in these updates………..lots of progress, no finishes.  This week is no different.  But it has been fun.  First, two swaps for sock yarn were arranged and it looks like there may be a couple more in the works.  My yarn ends have been sent off and there are yarn ends coming to me.  I  was able to send off a ball from my stash to a knitter in the UK who contacted me because she was going to be short a ball of yarn for the Jersey she was knitting and strangely I had the same dye lot that she needed.  Not sure how that happened.  She’s  sending me some stitch markers in return and maybe I should see if she has some sock yarn ends too.

The Knit and Crochet Blog week starts tomorrow and I’ve been working hard to make sure that is all set to go since I know that I do not have the time to write a blog entry every day.  I’m almost finished and I hope that you enjoy what’s coming up this week.  For more info about the blog week you can go here.

I’m starting to think that it may be about the right time to start organizing Year Two of “A Year of Projects”  so if you missed out and want to join for this coming year or you want to start thinking about doing this again next year, check into our Ravelry  group here.  I’ll post the new info within the next seven days.  The new year starts for us on July 1st, so not to worry, we have lots of time to think about it.

Also, my pesky minions have been up to no good again and something may have to be done about this.  Maybe after the blog week is over………

Anyway, here’s  my list.

YOP Update April 15th

It’s been a scattered knitting week for me.  I’ve picked up whatever project strikes my fancy at any given moment and work on it for a bit.  It’s really perfectly fine and it means that I have made progress on a bunch of things.  I blame the lack of focus on the rather high level of stress that’s been hovering around me this week, and unfortunately it threatens to get worse before it gets better.  But that’s just the way life is sometimes   I will knit my way through it and maybe come out on the other side with a few more finished objects.

I did however, finish the last of the knitting for Oeste and only had to fudge the very last triangle a little bit.  Now I just have to sew it all up.  It will be off the list soon.  There are  also some super fun things happening with the sock yarn blanket or as it will now be known as, the Epic Blanket of Insanity (or EBI for short).  (Thanks Suzy for letting me use that name too.  It’s perfect.  If you want to you can check out Suzy’s blog here.)  More about those details later this week, but I will say that my EBI has become my go to project (at least for now) and it’s great when I am too tired or cranky or stressed to focus on something bigger.  Needless to say, it’s gotten a lot of love from me this week.

In other exciting new, I’ve ordered the yarn I need to start working on the TKGA Master Handknit Program.  I’ve printed everything off and have it all organized in a binder.  In theory when the yarn arrives, I will be ready to start.

So, not a lot of change on the list.  3 More balls out and one more dishcloth finished.

YOP Update Jan 22, 2012

I’m pleased to report that I feel like this has been a much more productive week.  I finished the Reunion Cowl and it’s been added to the” needs to be blocked pile”.  (Is any one else bad at that or is it just me?  I don’t know why getting things blocked is such a challenge for me?)  I have finished my second January dishcloth.  I’ll post it later in the week.  But that does mean that the dishcloth challenge is on track on at least for this month going strong.  I have finally reached the point in Flavia where I feel like I am making progress and actually believe that I might be able to finish it by the end of the month and get it posted into the 12 in 2012 group.  The notorious blanket has been returned to the coffee table.  It is certainly harder to ignore while it’s staring at me every time I sit down to work on something else.  All in all I’m happy with the progress.
This weeks goals are to block both items waiting to be finished, return my Victoria to the living room and use it, and write-up the pattern that I created to make my husband’s Christmas Scarf.  It really is all doable. Wish me luck.
Looking forward to reading about everyone else’s week.  Hope it was a good one.
Mr. Linky is at the bottom.

YOP Update October 16th

Sundays seem to be coming at a fast and furious rate these days and with Christmas starting to loom in the near future, I wish there was a way to slow it all down.  I would love to have more knitting time.  But since that’s not going to happen, it’s all about using the time that I have as wisely as possible.

It’s been a busy week on the Year Of Projects front.  First, the last set of squares for the Noro log cabin blanket are soaking as I type this.  This is great news as it means that soon the blanket can start to be assembled and it is one step closer to being a finished object.  It will be a huge finish on the Christmas knitting front.

All of the bits for Stone the Gargoyle have been knit and I am hoping to have it at least partly sewn together by the end of the day and that will be another Christmas present finished and off the list.

Two other gifts have been started and are well on their way to being finished objects.  The chew toy for Maggie is  a very fast and easy knit and I am hoping that by the end of today that will have crossed over the magical line into the realm of finished objects.  Little J’s super secret christmas gift is coming along nicely and that too will be finished this week.

I have decided that My Vampire Boyfriend socks will double as both my second Nerd Wars entry of the month and as a Christmas gift as well.  It’s not the pair of socks I was planning to make as a gift for the recipient, but it is a pair of socks so the intention hasn’t changed even if the pattern has.

Even though I am making great strides on the Christmas knitting front, that creeping panic is starting to weasel its way into my thoughts and I am hoping that getting a few more items off the list will help squelch that before it gets too loud and I end up in full-out panic mode.  That’s my hope.

I also realized that somehow my toe up socks that are a WIP from the late spring have missed being put on my list so those have been added.

Onto the numbers:

9/44 complete

14/37  in progress

The progress is slow, but I still am crazy enough to think that I will get this all finished in time.  Sigh.

Another Sunday – Another YOP Udpate

It’s now been officially three months since I first posted my list and I have to say that I am shocked and amazed at how few things have been added to my list.  With the exception of the additional Christmas knitting, I have added only added four projects for myself two of which are finished and one is in progress.  I really don’t think that’s so bad.  I am  enjoying the focus that the list  giving me and I have to admit, my next Year Of Projects List might already be starting in my head.

I’d love to know where everyone else is in this crazy little knitting adventure.  Sorry for the short update, but it’s Thanksgiving weekend here in Canada.   Things are a little busy.

Here’s a Mr. Linky for your Linking pleasure.
